My mess

April 12th, 2007

I realise I havn’t posted in a really long time. I’ve been avoiding the need to sum up all my thoughts, my head’s a bit of a mess at the moment.

I had an international law test, it was OK. But my day got a lot worse when I got into a car accident that same night. That really brought my moods down to an all-time low. The fault doesn’t really lie anywhere, it was mine as well as the FOB dude, but the fact that it happened was scary enough. I saw his face when he just realised I was coming across his van. It was a big shock. I don’t want to sound like a sook, but it does make you revaluate everything.

Anyway, on a brighter note, Melbourne was excellent. Except for the first night, when we couldn’t get into that club next to crown. It was ridiculously packed. We went to Chapel, that was actually a bit disappointing. The food was great, we stuffed ourselves with Grill’d chips and Brunetti cake. The bars were really good and people looked good in general. It’s just a good looking city :) Thanks Tiff for hosting us, you did a great job. And, I really liked Brunswick Street - yay to my birthday dress now.  Oh, question: are you looking for a new direction? ;)

Apparently, it’s my birthday this weekend. It used to be a big deal for me, having a big party and all that, but now it just doesn’t matter. I can’t believe I’m 21 already… ugh. It would’ve been so good if I turned 21 before the states, but now, it’s kinda pointless. I will organise something at some point. Don’t worry, you guys will be informed soon.
I think I spent the first 3 weeks of uni feeling not quite right. The next 2 weeks figuring things out, and we’re already in week 5. Job-less still but I’m looking into volunteering work.

February 8th, 2007

I’m home.
So where have I been since my last post? I don’t even really know myself. I was in Boston again, Toronto, DC and NYC. Hoi joined me along the way and forced us to take photos of goosey. We would literally stop for 5 minutes, so he could setup shots for this stuffed toy. I’m questioning his sanity. We went to a monster truck show - we were so out of place and I still don’t understand the appeal of big, loud trucks. We got so lost in DC because we didn’t realise that shops close really early there. We couldn’t even find food. That was extremely depressing and then we resorted to delivery pizza.

NYC was good, it felt so familiar. I went to Princeton for 2 hours, visited CK and saw her nicely decorated room. It’s so pretty but I had to go back. It was a nice day trip though. Went to see Letterman and a Knicks game. Mandy Moore was such a ditz but the Knicks game was good. They were leading and then lost :( BOO.

So, for once, I didn’t miss my flight back to Sydney. It was such a long flight and LA was so boring because none of the shops were open. I had to go Economy on the last leg of the flight but I sat next to a really cool chick. We had a great conversation.

Anyway, I got home and pretty much passed out. Had to go to PwC the next day and was extremely drained out because we went lawn bowling after. I don’t understand the appeal of lawn bowling except that it’s like ten-pin except outdoors. And, drinkng & bowling definitely go hand in hand. I ate so much at PwC - they fed us like crazy. Met up with some friends, caught up and generally had a lot of cafe-nights.

Happy 21st Birthday Tina & Vanessa!

Happy 21st Birthday Emily & Tiffany!

Friday night was a bit of a dissappointment, Scary Canary sucked quite a bit. We felt so old there (probably because we were comparatively). Not going there again. Lots of 21sts, including Deddy’s make-up/surprise birthday dinner and that idea didn’t quite click in his head until the cake came out. Henry & Deddy are definitely two of a kind ;)

Tiffany & Emily’s birthday was amazing. It was so creative, lots of good (and not so good) photos everywhere, great food & drinks. I came in the middle of Vanessa & Tina’s party and missed the birthday song :( Apparently, I have time management issues.

So great weekend and we went to the beach at the Royal National Park on Sunday - too bad we went at 5pm but it would’ve been awesome. It was so nice, Iv & Mel decided to jump off a cliff, we’re going back for a BBQ sometime. I never really knew where Bundeena was.

So, after a great weekend, I was back to nothing. I did nothing all day. Everyone works and I have no job at the moment. So this feeling of nothingness was so strange. Being at home by myself and finding some means to kill time was really weird. I hate it. I figured I can never be a housewife because it’s just too boring. I think my friends have never seen me this crazy boring, they’re a bit shocked.

Played one game of poker and won once, broke even for the night. I can’t play, I can’t bluff but it was so nice to get back into the routine of poker. Next up is mahjong. But Tiff’s going so soon >.<

I'm going to HK tomorrow so I can kill time in another country. Not true, HK is a great place but there will be some moments of boredom. Phuong's coming though so I get to show her around and shop a lot. Send me an email if you're going to be there in the next two weeks, great fun :) .

OK - so I've been meaning to buy my cat some top shelf cat food over the last 2 days, and never did it. Now he's going to have to eat some supermarket crap for the next 2 weeks. Poor ding :( He looks so skinny, I'm scared that he might be a little depressed... Vet time when I get back.

Photos will be coming up. I just have to be a little proactive.

It was like a Sydney Girls Reunion

January 14th, 2007

In a rush, I was finally in London for 4 jam-packed days. After all the airport frustrations, everything went smoothly, got onto a flight, a good seat, met some really nice people, found my luggage at Heathrow and met up with Phuong. Ray and Phuong were beginning their renovations so I obviously came at a really bad time, but I still had a bed to sleep on, showered somewhere and they showed me around London - that’s all I needed, and I appreciated it :)

Did the touristy things - Buckingham Palace, Green Park, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Chinatown (the obligatory place to go in any city), St Paul’s Cathedral, British Museum, Westminster, etc etc. London’s so different from anywhere else I’ve been, similar to Quebec, there’s no high rises, just little buildings with intricate designs. Shops close at 6pm just like Australia but there’s a bunch of cafes & pubs everywhere. Things are more expensive because the pound sucks against the Aussie dollar, but the whole trip was well worth it. I invested in some nice items so I’m happy. The weather was definitely not in my favour, it was so windy and when I left in the morning, it was all sunny…
I didn’t feel like I was in London the whole time though, I hung out with Aussies and there were foreigners everywhere. The English accent wasn’t very prevalent. I met a lot of Old girls as well from different years, there’s a bunch of Sydney Girls in London, it’s so random. It felt so much like home…

Poor Phuong, I dragged her around London, we did this stop & take photos thing for an hour. We stopped in front of the building/tourist site and took a photo and walked to the next place. Oh - I love the tube, it’s so much like the HK MTR.

Anyway, we ended the whole trip by going clubbing at a place called Fabric last night. It was techno/dance stuff - not really my type of thing but I had an incredible time. Good company, good talks & good times :) We left at 5am - showered, packed and ran for the train to the airport, my flight was at 10am. I’m not very good at time management/organisation these days. I made it and I’m in Boston now. I miss Phuong & co. in London and I’ll definitely be back there sometime and even sooner, we’ll all see Phuong in HK/Australia. I loved it :) Photos to come soon.

<3 Boston, Hate Airports

January 8th, 2007

NYE was great in Boston, although it was at a club, there was a countdown and everything so I was totally satisfied. After that, days just passed by sitting on the couch and watching a sh*tloads of America’s Next Top Model and Hogan Knows Best. I felt very productive when Vivian and I decided to go skiing at Wachusett. Even though it was really warm that day and all the snow was man-made, we took a skiing lesson and felt very good about ourselves. Though, I got progressively worse throughout the day, I made it down the hill… twice. I don’t think I’m destined to be a skier, but I’m definitely going to try harder next time. We did some serious bumming throughout the week, coupled with drinking wine, eating good pastries and lots of internet. It felt like home :)

I seriously hate airports. They tell me that the flights are overbooked and I end up getting a flight between Boston & JFK. But in the meantime, they lose my luggage. Or, as American Airlines say ‘delayed’ my luggage. Couldn’t get on a flight to London and crashing with Ah Fai’s family at the moment, they’re really cool people. Went to yum cha (for like the 3rd time in the U.S.) and trying for flights again tonight, everything looks so overbooked though. Why is everyone heading out to London?! And, amidst all my frustration, some 15/16-yr old looking dude was trying to get my number. Do I look 15/16 years of age?! No, I hope not. I couldn’t really understand what he was saying either but he was muttering something about ‘Meeting again down the track’. No, I’m not meeting anyone from the airport down the track, it’s just not happening. I think I had the worse night of my U.S.-life yesterday.

On a better note, I’m looking forward to 21sts when I come back :)

Farewell to Emily & Louise going on their own exchange experiences to France & Japan. I hope they don’t get stuck in airports. You’ll have the best time of your life :)

I loved Boston, good company, good food and good times. I should’ve just stayed another month there and waste away on that couch with crazy Gizmo. Gizmo is so crazy, he’s half-cat, half-dog. He tries to paw everyone who walks around the coffee table. Ah Fai’s cats just sit there, they’ve been sleeping since I got here… last night.

Good luck all and fingers crossed that I get to London in one piece, Phuong probably hates me by now because she never knows when I’m coming.
